Sustainability

Why is this important for achieving our goals?
Sustainability in Norwegian Football encompasses environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. As Norway's largest sports movement, we contribute significantly to society each year through health, inclusion, and community values. We work aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including green transition, public health, social inclusion, reducing inequalities, gender equality, and community cohesion. Through football, we build communities, promote equal opportunities, and create social sustainability while fostering values that strengthen society for future generations. We call this sustainable practice.
Success in sustainability requires collaboration. In partnership with the UN, Norwegian Football is committed to the ambitious 'Football for the Goals' initiative. Additionally, the NFF runs development projects in 15 countries, training female coaches and leaders to provide girls with safe access to football. We aim to expand this work to reach even more people globally. At home, we are strengthening the collaboration between elite and grassroots football to embed sustainable practices within clubs and further develop football's societal role.
The NFF also plays an important international role as a representative of Norwegian Football. In a world facing uncertainty and ethical challenges, we strive to be a positive force. Through proactive engagement, we will support initiatives that address global challenges in football while promoting values that benefit both the sport and society.
Our priorities must build trust and demonstrate our commitment to driving meaningful change while highlighting football's unique value. To reach our goals, we must combine our broader societal responsibility with a clear understanding of football's impact and intrinsic worth.
By 2030, we will:
Measure our activities' positive and negative effects and share the results with the Norwegian football community (climate accounting and SROI data).
Explore and implement measures to reduce emissions from Norwegian Football by 55%.
Actively promote sustainable transformation in clubs by developing tools for sustainable practices, integrating them into daily management and governance at all levels, and learning from best practices across the football community.
Seek more impactful partnerships with public and private organisations to strengthen our international development work.
Engage actively in international value-based discussions relevant to football, providing a clear and informed voice based on knowledge and insight.
